Articles of the Association for the Japan Economic Policy Association

(1. Name) Article 1. The name of the Association is the Japan Economic Policy Association.
(2. Objectives) Article 2. The objectives of the Association are as follows:
  1. Research on economic policies
  2. Communication with domestic and overseas academic associations and organizations
(3. Activities) Article 3. The activities of the Association are as follows:
  1. Meeting for reports of research.
  2. A national meeting is held annually at an appropriate location and date. Special meetings are held if necessary.
  3. The Regional Chapter is set up and held in such manner as laid down regularly.
  4. Publication of the Association journal.
  5. Pronouncement of the Association's opinion, in the name of the Association timely.
  6. Other activities those are relevant in attaining the Association's objectives.
(4.Membership) Article 4. The Association is organized by researchers on economic policy.

An organization or government agency related to research on economic policy, or a corporation which supports the objectives of the Association and promotes its activities, may also qualify as a Member.
The Board of Managing Directors, with the approval of the General Meeting, can bestow honorary membership on a Member who has made significant contributions to the Association.

Article 5. Any person who intends to join the Association shall make an application to the Board of Managing Directors through the recommendation of two Members; in such a case, the application for membership shall be approved at the next General Meeting.
Article 6. The Member shall pay the following membership fee every April (or at the time of admission as a new Member joining from May or thereafter).
  1. Individual Member: 8,000 Yen
  2. Organization, Public Office, and Supporting Member: 50,000 Yen
  3. Student Member: 4,000 Yen
Article 7. The Member shall subscribe to the journal of the Japan Economic Policy Association at actual cost.
Article 8. A Member who intends to withdraw from the Association shall apply in writing to the Board of Managing Directors.
Article 9. A Member whose membership fee is in arrears for three consecutive years shall in principle lose his/her membership in the Association. A Member who in any way disgraces the Association may be dismissed by a resolution of the Board of Directors.
(Officers) Article 10. The following officers shall be appointed for the Association:

President: 1
Vice President: a few
Managing Director: limited to 25
Director: a few

Article 11. The President, who shall be elected from the Managing Directors by mutual vote, shall represent the Association and preside over the Board of Managing Directors.
The Vice President, who shall be elected from the Managing Directors by mutual vote, shall support the President and assume the duties of the President if the President is incapable or absent.
Article 12. The Managing Director, who shall be elected from the Members, shall be responsible for the daily activities of the Association. The election procedures shall be stipulated in a separate document. The Board of Managing Directors shall require a resolution by the Board of Directors for the matters important to the Association.
Article 13. The Director shall be elected from the Members with the approval of those in attendance at the General Meeting. The election procedures shall be stipulated in a separate document. The Director shall share the activities for the Association.
Article 14. The Auditor, who shall be appointed from the Members by the recommendation of the Board of Managing Directors, shall audit the account of the Association, and report its result in the General Meeting.
Article 15. The daily activities of the Association shall be conducted by Associate Directors of the Association and of the Regional Chapters, at the request of the Board of Managing Directors.
Article 16. The term for each Officer shall be three years. Re-election shall be allowed.
(5. General Meetings) Article 17. The General Meeting of the Association shall be held annually. An extraordinary meeting may be held when the Board of Managing Directors considers it necessary or when at least one third of the Members so request.
Article 18. The Board of Managing Directors shall in advance determine and notify the Members of the agenda, the place and the date of the General Meeting, and shall report the activities and the financial matters of the Association to the Members in the General Meeting.
Article 19. The Chairperson of the General Meeting shall be elected from the Members in each General Meeting.
(6. Others) Article 20. The amendments to the Articles of the Association or the dissolution of the Association shall require the approval of two thirds of the Members present at the General Meeting, based on either a proposal of more than half of the Directors or that of at least one tenth of the Members.
Article 21. The location of the office of the Association shall be designated by the President.
Article 22. The fiscal year of the Association shall be from April 1st to March 31st of the following year.
Article 23 A resolution at the General Meeting shall be adopted by the approval of more than half of the Members present unless stated otherwise in the Articles of Association. The Chairperson shall decide when the votes are equally divided.
Article 24. The establishment of a new Regional Chapter or a Division for a particular research theme shall be allowed by submitting its articles to and obtaining approval from the Board of Managing Directors.
Article 25. The Board of Managing Directors shall stipulate the rules necessary for conducting the activities of the Association.
Article 26. The Annual Meeting for the foundation shall be the First General Meeting. Notwithstanding Article 5, a person who makes an application for the membership to the Association prior to the First General Meeting shall be admitted as a Member.
Article 27. The Association was founded on May 17, 1940.

These Articles of the Association for the Japan Economic Policy Association shall be effective from May 17, 1940.

The revised Articles of the Association for the Japan Economic Policy Association shall be effective from May 26, 1967.
